Lead Civil Design Engineer - Energy

Job Purpose

The Civil Engineer will lead civil design and construction activities for power plants, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with standards, and timely project delivery. The role involves design oversight, site supervision, coordination with EPC contractors, OEMs, and consultants, and mentoring civil engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Oversight

  • Lead civil design activities, including material selection, layout, and site interfaces.
  • Review and approve civil drawings, specifications, and BOMs submitted by EPC contractors, OEMs, and consultants.
  • Maintain communication between OEMs/contractors and the design team to ensure timely completion of design works.
  • Evaluate contractor proposals and conduct technical bid evaluations for civil works.

Project Execution

  • Supervise civil works to ensure compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
  • Monitor site compliance with design and alert design team/consultants for necessary revisions.
  • Lead site inspections.

Engineering Management & Quality Assurance

  • Establish and enforce internal civil engineering standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with procurement and project management teams to manage technical risks, delays, and change orders.
  • Conduct and record tests and surveys on-site.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to civil engineering staff.
  • Act as the owner’s representative in meetings with EPC contractors, OEMs, and third-party engineers.
  • Participate in HAZOP, design reviews, and risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of civil engineering experience, with 5+ years in the power generation sector (thermal, solar CSP, biomass, gas, or hybrid systems).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Tekla, Revit or equivalent; MS Project, Primavera or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with international and local civil design standards (ISO, DIN, etc.).
  • Proven success in supporting EPC execution or owner’s engineering roles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in combined-cycle, cogeneration, or hybrid renewable plants.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred.
  • Experience in projects across developing markets or remote locations.
