Head of E-commerce Development

Role Purpose

The Head of E-Commerce Development is responsible for overseeing e-commerce software development methodology and architecture, ensuring clean, smooth, and high-performance applications. He/she defines the short-term and long-term e-commerce technology strategy along with the associated roadmap. The role entails managing the overall e-commerce technology stack and optimizing its performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify optimization opportunities across all divisions of e-commerce to improve the group's efficiency and deliver quality service to internal and external clients.
  • Create, implement, and oversee technology metrics to measure the effectiveness of the department, suppliers, and digital channels.
  • Suggest and implement appropriate e-commerce technology solutions throughout the group, ensuring they cater to projected business growth.
  • Set and oversee e-commerce technology strategy aligned with company goals across all entities.
  • Update and maintain corporate standards, policies, and procedures for e-commerce, ensuring consistent implementation.
  • Implement best practices in software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum.
  • Manage the annual budget and business plan for the e-commerce technology department, ensuring projects are implemented accordingly.
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale e-commerce and retail architectures across multiple countries and channels.
  • Oversee architecture design from concept to deployment, ensuring integration with commerce, ERP, CRM, logistics, and payment systems.
  • Plan and manage task implementations in coordination with external consultants.
  • Champion modern engineering and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and zero-downtime deployments.
  • Establish architecture governance standards, design patterns, and review processes for consistency and quality.
  • Drive innovation using AI-enabled commerce solutions such as personalization, recommendation engines, and intelligent pricing tools.
  • Collaborate with business and technology leaders to align e-commerce solutions with enterprise goals.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and evaluate the team to ensure optimal performance and contribution to the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; MBA is a plus.
  • 15 years of experience in a similar role, with a minimum of 6 years in a managerial position.
  • Experience in E-Commerce Retail on both the client & system integration (SI) sides is a plus.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
